I was 12 when I first saw Ryan Gosling dangling from a ferris wheel askingRachel McAdams to go out with him, and I immediately fell in love.
Noah, Ryan Gosling’s character in “The Notebook,” ruined all other men in terms of romance. Just ask anyone who had two eyes and a heart in the early 2000s.
So, it’s kind of weird apparently no guy wanted to play the iconic heartthrob.
In a recent interview with IMDb, author Nicholas Sparks recalled howdifficult it was to find an actor to play Noah. He said,
The funny thing was, no one wanted to play Noah. It was incredibly hard to find an actor willing to play Noah. It was really interesting because a lot of the actors said, ‘Well, what’s Noah’s arc?’ It’s a guy who falls in love and then he just kinda does nothing, and then waits for her to show up and then he’s there and he’s still in love and then at the end of the film, well, he’s still in love,’ they said. ‘Where’s the arc?’ So Ryan Gosling came in and he really brought that story to life.
It is extremely ironic theactors were turned off by a character whose only arc was to fall in love. Gee, I wonder what it would be like to only be written as a romantic interest, right ladies?
Thankfully, our angel Ryan stepped up to the plate and made Noah more swoon-worthy than any other actor could have. The role essentially launched his career as an A-list actor, so who’s laughing now? Bless.
